Well, I recenttlly started putting together a team for actual battling (the one I currently use is good, but it's nearing the end of it's leveling time, which calls for a new start).  So, I go asking for movesets and I get pounded with insults about what I'm using. They say Sableye is a Pathetic Pokémon. Compared to Spiritomb it sucks, but whatever happened to personal preference in what you use? Besides, if I train Sableye the right way it actually could be a force to be reckoned with. Just because somebody prefers to not use something like a Tyranitar does not mean they suck.

Where am I getting at? I'm getting at that the Pokémon community lacks originality. Nintendo had good intentions by putting EVs and IVs into the game, but to be honest, that's what really killed it. I now not only have to level up my team, but they must get trained on certain Pokémon. My problem with this is I am frustrated with it. You have to go online to find out what EV training is. Pokémon is also a children's game. When I got Sapphire version nobody told me a word about EV training, even the strategy guide I had (I get one for the items, evolution levels, ect. Not really for the guide) told me anything about it. Now, the 4th generation actually TRIED to help, but let's see what they tell you:

Bidoof: HP
Attack: Machop
Defense: Geodude
Speed: Starly
Sp. ATK: Ghastly
Special Defense: Tentacool

Now, according to one person, who gave me advice on where to train my Aerodactyl said to train on Magickarp from Fisherman Andrew. So, I spend about 2 hours getting EXP to level my Aerodactly up. What do I get? +3 in speed. He got more when I trained him in attack from level 22 to 23. EV training is very confusing and they need to fix the confusion for casual players.

What does EV training have to do with this? It leads to the movesets. Movesets are usually where the fun was. You always had variety. Now, we have people like Marriland, Serebii, ect (not I'm not saying they make the move sets, but the promote them) making move sets that are now uniform for each Pokémon (with very very little variables.).

For example every time I see Skarmory it has a carbon copy of this move set, no matter who I face have:
Spikes
Roar
A status effecting move (mostly Toxic)
And an attacking move

It's disappointing, because now we can no longer have fun. We know what to expect if we see a person throw a level 1 Rattata out into a battle against a level 100. Fortunately for me, I actually never heard of a FEAR until I met one. Luckily my Pikachu (shut up Pikachu haters. I hate mine just as much as you do. It's a good one though.)  used Quick Attack to outrun it.

I miss the days where you ran into people who use movesets like mine that actually make battles fun, instead of making it like a game of chess (switching almost every second does get irritating).

I miss the movesets like:

Charizard:
Fire Blast
Fly
Dragon Claw
Flamethrower

That was back in Generation 1. Now, when we go 3 generations later we have these (forgive me, because this may be bad word choice on my part) elistist players telling us what to use.

Pokémon is a game and in games you're supposed to have fun. I have people telling me "Well, why don't you use a Salamence instead of an Altaria? Altaria sucks compared to it." Because I enjoy it more using Pokémon I actually like. I can ask a lot of the people I face why they use the ones they use and they say "because they win for me." Now, I ask them if they like them and they say "Of course, who doesn't like a winning team?"

What's the point in winning if you're just using stuff that you were pressured into using? I've seen it happen all the time. You have to agree that the moment somebody considers a Bibarel for their team we're going to see some sparks fly. Sure, Bibarel may suck, but if you like Bibarel (which I'm sure only .5% of the fans do. The other .5% like Bidoof) go ahead and use it. There's no problem with that (In fact, losing to a Bibarel is disgraceful. I have to say, when I saw my Feraligatr go down I was shaking my head.).

So, how many of you actually use favorites in every slot of your team? In my main team (the one I'm close to finishing leveling up) I have all my favorites and they do really well together. In my new team I have a few favorites, but to give it some muscle I'm adding a Salamence (Back up for when my Aerodactyl has trouble and to lead off).

Discuss. Is the gaming of Pokémon going down, because everyone's going straight for what everyone else uses?
